Sprouts - still growing
Background and Objective
Food choices are strongly shaped by personal preferences, cultural norms, availability, and economic factors. At the same time, diets are not only individual decisions: they exist within food systems that contribute substantially to environmental degradation and public health burdens. Animal-based products account for a disproportionate share of these impacts. Official dietary recommendations, therefore, suggest plant-based diets with a limited intake of meat. Nonetheless, average meat consumption remains at a level far exceeding advisements.
Our goal was to identify a way to reduce overconsumption of meat to lessen the environmental strain of food production and to improve human health, without resorting to banning animal products or restricting people's freedom of choice.
