Core problem
The working population was often stressed and perceived a lack of time, leading to inadequate care for their bodies. Research indicated that a mere 14% of individuals between 45-68 years old adhered to the daily physical activity guidelines.
Research Question
Which of the methods (enhanced user experience, motivation, deterrence, competition) was most successful in increasing the spontaneous physical activity of employees in terms of their stair usage?
Milestones and Progress
We had decided to concentrate on three distinct methods:
- Social competition among participating companies
- Custom posters for motivation and deterrence
- Improved User Experience with all sense
Up to that point, we had been in contact with multiple interested companies. We had also taken the initial step towards future cooperation with a major company in the healthcare sector.
We were in the process of implementing custom and tailor-made solutions to ensure the most accurate measurements for our experiments. Team members were working on a health-specific survey that complied with all of the company's stipulations. In addition, we were developing our own light sensor barriers to precisely track motion flow in front of elevators and stairs. This also enabled us to assure the utmost data security for the participating companies.
Goal
Our goal was to enhance the stair utilization by the employees, in comparison to their elevator usage, in a company during their work day by a minimum of 10% within a week. We strived to achieve this using the methods we had developed.
